Ethio-Kenya Electricity Highway Project Nearing Completion
March 14, 2020 (FBC) – The Ethio-Kenya Electricity Highway Project is expected to be ready for testing and commissioning at the end of this Ethiopian year, according to Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).
Upon completion, the project will promote power, trade, and regional integration, and contribute to the Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP) countries’ social and economic development.
Leading Russian Company To Start Sourcing Flowers From Ethiopia
March 10, 2020 (FBC) -Leading Russian food retailer X5 has announced that it will start importing flower supplies directly from Ethiopia through RVI, the company’s subsidiary responsible for direct imports.
The company will import roses grown by Afriflora Sher Company, which are cultivated at the largest rose farm in the world in accordance with Fairtrade standards.
Aviation Africa 2020 Summit Opens In Addis Ababa
March 4, 2020 (FBC) -The 5th Aviation Africa 2020 Summit and Exhibition opened in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at Skylight Hotel this morning.

CBE Donates 10m Birr To Fight COVID-19
March 19, 2020 (FBC) – The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) has donated 10 million birr to the Ministry of Health to fight coronavirus (COVID-19).
Ethiopia now has six confirmed cases of coronavirus.
According to the Ministry of Health, four of them are now in good condition with no symptoms.
The remaining two patients have mild to moderate symptoms and they are under frequent follow up, it added.

During it week-long stay, members of the team are expected to explore the investment opportunities available in the region.

Scientists Discover 1.5m Year Old Hominin Cranium In Ethiopia
March 4, 2020 (FBC) –Scientists have discovered nearly completed hominin cranium and a partial cranium in Ethiopia that date back 1.5 million and 1.26 million years, respectively.
The crania were discovered from the Gona study area, in Afar region, by Dr. S. Semaw, Senior Research Scientist from CCENNIEH (Burgos, Spain), Prof M. Rogers from SCSU (Connecticut, USA) and their research team.

Over 4m Birr Built Mental Health Care Centre Inaugurated
February 28, 2020 (FBC) – St. Amanuel Mental Specialized Hospital today inaugurated a mental health care centre built with 4.2 million birr.
The construction of the centre was fully funded by the HEINEKEN Africa Foundation, an organization that supports projects that improve the health for those people that need it most.
Ethiopia Earns $407mn From Coffee Export In 7 Months
February 24, 2020 (FBC) –Coffee export during the past seven months has generated 407 million US dollars, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (CTA).
Dr Adugna Debela, Director General of CTA, told FBC that the country had exported 150,000 tonnes of coffee in seven months.
Ministry To Rerate 200 Hotels
February 26, 2020 (FBC) – The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has announced plans to conduct star ratings of 200 hotels again this Ethiopia fiscal year.
Consultations had been held with hotels owners in Addis Ababa to award the star ratings, said the Ministry. The hotels were given star ratings in 2016.
Ethiopian Skylight Hotel was awarded five-star rating last week.
